There will be a membership meeting of the Fair Grove Historical Society on Tuesday, March 16th at 7:30 p.m. at the Fire Station.
The agenda includes
- Election of officers
- Membership reminder
- Workday
- Festival discussion
There will probably be other topics, and since many meetings have not been held in the past few months you can expect an active discussion on many issues.
Work Day
We're taking advantage of the fine weather to make important repairs on the property. Your help is needed!
We are having a work day this Saturday at 8 a.m.
We will be working on replacing siding on the museum and removing some lumber stored inside. If enough people show up I have a long list of things to be done.
Will have tools for the siding, but may want to bring for other chores, such as clippers, chainsaws, trailer to haul debris, we should have extra tools for any other projects.
At the general membership meeting on the evening of August 18th, 2020 a vigorous discussion about whether to hold the Reunion was conducted, with several people offering their opinions. A vote was held regarding whether to continue to plan and hold the 2020 Heritage Reunion. This blog is not the official minutes of the meeting, but I observed that the vote was approximately 2-to-1 in favor of cancelling.
Nobody is happy about COVID-19 and the way it has affected our lives but the primary motivation, from my observation, was to try to prevent this event from being a nexus for the virus to spread further throughout the Fair Grove community. Since people attend and participate from a very wide region, it could have potentially spread to a much larger area. There are already active cases in Fair Grove, and the health considerations were the only motivation in this cancellation.
Planning for the Ice Cream Social
The Historical Society is planning to have the annual ice cream social on Saturday, July 18th from 5:30 - 8:30.
Of course this is all subject to the current restrictions for COVID-19 at the time, and we really are not in control of that situation. Please be prepared to practice social distancing and take every precaution to guard your health.
More announcements will appear here as things come into focus and more arrangements are finalized.
In the mean time, we're looking for the bakers out there to donate pies and cobblers to be sold. There's nothing better than blackberry cobbler and vanilla ice cream. Any kind of fruit pie or cobbler is welcome.
